Low Mood / Depression

What is Depression?

A lot of people feel sad at different points in their lives or have a low mood, but how do you know if you are suffering from depression? Depression is more than feeling sad around a major life event, it is a continual feeling of sadness or low mood that lasts for far longer than a few days. While some people may trivialise depression, it is a serious condition that can have a lasting impact on someone’s life and their ability to engage with day to day events. Depression can also be linked to other mental health issues such as anxiety (if you also suffer from anxiety, please see my blog post regarding anxiety). Hypnotherapy can help to eliminate the symptoms you are experiencing.

Symptoms of Depression

The symptoms of depression can vary widely from person to person and can range from very mild to very severe and can cycle through these stages of severity during the episode of depression. Some of the psychological symptoms of depression are:

  • Continued low mood
  • Low self-esteem
  • Feeling anxious
  • Not enjoying life or situations which have previously brought joy

Depression can also cause physical symptoms, some of which include:

  • Lack of energy
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Changes in appetite
  • Changes in menstrual cycle

Depression can also impact upon your social interactions as you may not want to spend time with others or be in amongst groups of people. This can, in turn, then impact upon work and school life also making attendance difficult while you are feeling depressed.

Causes

Depression can be caused by any number of situations, or other mental health conditions, however, sometimes there is no discernible cause that sufferers are able to report. Depression can be linked to a single event, such as bereavement, or loss of a job. Alternatively, a number of situations can build to cause significant stress or pressure, which sufferers of depression report can have a build-up effect which causes low mood.

How I can help

During our initial telephone conversation, we will discuss any reasons you have identified for the cause of your depression, but please do not feel concerned or think I cannot help if you cannot pinpoint the cause. Once we have discussed any causes, you may have identified we will discuss the best way in which I can help you. I will use holistic processes to help you to change the way you think and help to reduce the negative impact of situations on your mood.

I have a quiet private area where we will then work to improve your depression, in this area, you will be able to relax and concentrate on your own wellbeing. Through hypnosis, I am able to help you to change the way your mind and body reacts day-to-day and can help to reduce anxiety also. With the new positive techniques in place, you can begin to live your life with a positive mood and an increased ability to cope with situations that may previously have triggered an episode of depression.
